Where Should I Do My TEFL Course? Home or Abroad?
One of the things to consider once you 've decided you want to train for a TEFL qualification, is where you would like to study - home or abroad? This question applies to everyone, regardless of where they live right now. Let's look at a few of the issues you need to consider when making your decision.
For some, it will be the comfy option to study in your home country as you will, of course, be familiar with the culture & surroundings. This can be useful if you are still considering which country you would like to work in as you may learn more about the options open to you whilst you study.
However, there are many advantages to studying your course in the country you want to end up working in. It will give you first-hand experience of the culture & people you will be dealing with & in your free-time on the course you will be able to socialise in your chosen surroundings. Also during your course you will be activly teaching people from that country in the same way you would if you stayed on to work there. This will leave you will be better equiped to decide, by the end of the course, if it's the right place for you to work. For some people this has proven to be invaluable insight as they have realised that they would prefer to teach in another country after actually being in town and seeing the reality first hand. So really the TEFL course itself can be viewed as the first teaching experience in that country which can be a good indicator of what's to come.
Once you have your qualification (lets hope they studying pays off and you pass!) 'the world is your oyster' as they say, with so many countries and fabulous oppertunities in front of you - it is your passport to a world of experience and you are in full control of it!
